My first attempts at quilting were made beginning this summer at 44 years old. I took a class to make a "fast fuse" Garden Angel min-quilt. I enjoyed making it so much I ended up making one for a graduation present, one for myself and four for Christmas.

The Golfer

GolferOn the first of November, my husband and I saw a pattern in a book called The Quilting Bee from That Patchwork Place. It was an antique golfer with knickers. We fell in love with it but I had never attempted any applique of this type before so I was skeptical. We decided it was the perfect gift for my husband's brother who just purchased a new home and is an avid golfer. It took me all of the next month to search out just the right fabrics. That didn't leave much time to make the quilt and I still had two of the Garden Angels left. I am proud to say not only was I able to finish all of the quilts but I got them mailed in time to get to Wisconsin for Christmas.

50th Anniversary Family Quilt!

anniversary quilt
The other picture is of a quilt my whole family made for our parents this past summer for their 50th anniversary. My sister, Sherry, came up with the idea and did a huge share of the work. She picked the fabrics, the pattern, sent the family instructions and fabric for each of thier squares and cut, sewed and quilted the rest of the king-sized quilt.

Back DetailHer daughter wrote information about each family member who contributed to the quilt on the back of thier square with permenant ink. The information included date and place of birth, parents names, date and place of marriage, and children. Each of us were told to make our square however we pleased but to try to make it "uniquely you". Few of us sew, therefore most of the squares are painted, but the result is fantastic! Even more incredible is the fact that in almost a years time with all the planning and work to get these squares done, no one leaked it to the folks! When we presented it to them at the party, they were truly amazed that we acomplished such a project under their noses without their knowledge.
